Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.

Five Star Trail, Greensburg, PA - Noticing the Details

Board President Sharon Detar and I visited Malcolm Sias, Westmoreland County Parks and Recreation Program Coordinator, this morning. We were there to get more advice and reference material for the trail construction of Phase One. We are looking at the details now, like signs, fences and gates. So when we took a short walk on Greensburg's Five Star Trail, we looked with new and different eyes.
What would we want on our trail? How about welcoming entry sign?

Bollards at crossings? Or gates? Or both? Asphalt....
or gravel? The details that impressed us the most were the ones that homeowners had added. A stone step path to the trail with a cottage garden around it. And a bird feeder.Their own opening in the split rail fence for a neighboring home.

An adorable privet archway to the trail in another yard.
And then we looked with envy at the pedestrian bridge over Pittsburgh Street.
Soon Ligonier. Soon.

I love that residents have made this trail a part of their home. It's obvious that the trail access would be a selling point for real estate.

Please - no asphalt in the green areas. We're trying to escape asphalt!
