165 Days And Counting To The Bridge

Last month, after a receiving five bids during our second request for bid proposals, Ligonier Township Supervisors and the Recreation Board agreed to accept the $128,500.00 bid from Simmonds Construction Services LLC.

A collective sigh of relief was heard in the Valley!
A first request for bids in May provided one bid that was $100,000 over the planned budget. After discussion and further research, the Board and Township determined that a second request was necessary. The board's representatives at the prebid meeting in August made clear what the budget constraints were and also how important of a project this was to our community.
At the preconstruction meeting October 3 with Brian Mergenthaler(Wheeler Construction), Josh Penatzar, (LWA), Paul McQuade(Morris Knowles), Rose Stepnick(Project Manager) and Winston Simmonds, a preliminary drawing of the bridge was shared and will be finalized by month's end.  Mr. Simmonds' crane and heavy machine operators also came on site to determine their best method of setting the bridge on our historical abutments. Supervisor Tim Komar offered the Township's encouragement and support to the team.
